Classes

With a variety of dance styles to choose from, every dancer has the opportunity to explore, learn, and express themselves. We create a positive and encouraging environment where confidence grows and a love for dance begins.

Mainstream

A fun, supportive program focused on building strong technique, confidence, and performance skills across dance styles.

Competition Troupe

An extension program for committed dancers, developing stage experience, discipline, teamwork, and performance excellence through regular competitions.

VCE VET Dance

A nationally recognised, two-year vocational dance program for Years 10–12, contributing to VCE while preparing students for industry pathways.

Private Lessons

A fun, supportive program focused on building strong technique, confidence, and performance skills across dance styles.

Our uniform requirements help students feel confident, comfortable and ready to learn. Each class has specific uniform guidelines to support movement, safety and a professional dance environment.

Half tutu is available to hire from MDT or purchase from Energetiks Ivanhoe and/or Essendon (also available at Bloch may be slightly different names)

Uniform for Other Styles

Melbourne Dance Theatre does not have a compulsory uniform for dance styles other than the Classical Ballet Program besides footwear. However, all attire must be black and fitted for the student to be safe while in class and for teachers to be able to correct students technique efficiently. Students may wear their own leggings, shorts, fitted Singlet/t-shirts, Crop Tops etc. Melbourne Dance Theatre has its own Studio Merchandise which can be purchased from the office.

We have listed below the required shoes for each dance style and recommended clothing items as well as what is compulsory uniform if you child sits their Exams/Assessments.

LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY

Females: Black shoestring leotard/Singlet, Black Leggings/Shorts,black footless tights, Nude Canvas Pivot Shoes (1/2 Shoe)

Males: Ballet uniform with black footless tights and black cotton socks.

JAZZ/TAP/MUSICAL THEATRE/ACROBATICS/STAGE AND SCREEN

Females: Black leotard/Singlet/T-shirt, black shorts/Leggings, Tan Pull On Jazz Shoe (Jazz/Musical Theatre/Stage and Screen) Tan Low Heel Tap shoes (Jnr/Inter Tap) and Tan Cuban Heel Tap shoes (Snr Tap)

Males: Ballet uniform or Black fitted clothing, Black jazz shoes and Black tap shoes
